Who can play in the Freedom Cup?
Short answer: ANY TEAM.
Long answer: AYSO is in the business of providing “more soccer for more kids”. The Sandy Freedom Cup is an opportunity for soccer teams to play in a fun, low-key, soccer tournament. Utah and the Salt Lake Valley is FULL of highly competitive tournaments tailored to the “best” club teams. Often, the less competitive teams enter these tournaments and pay A LOT of money for a lackluster experience. The Sandy Freedom Cup is here for AYSO “Select” teams, AYSO EXTRA teams, and UYSA Club teams in the “A” and lower divisions (D3 and below). It is a low-cost alternative and an opportunity to play against different teams of similar competitive abilities.
How much does it cost to play?
$600 for U16/U19 AYSO coed teams, $600 for U15, $550 for U14/U13, $525 for U12/U11, $500 for U10. The tournament divisions go by the USSF standard “birth year” divisions.
When does registration end?
Registration paperwork or Affinity online registration (for Utah club teams) must be delivered by July 10th, 2020. Delivery of registration forms can be done electronically via email or delivered by mail to the tournament PO Box. Payment can be done with check or credit card (through PayPal). If you would like to pay registration fees via PayPal, please contact us and let us know so we can send a customized payment link.
Why host a youth soccer tournament?
AYSO regions in Utah have a long history of hosting successful summer soccer tournaments over the years. Along with the launch of AYSO’s competitive club program called AYSO United, we decided a tournament would be a fantastic idea to show what AYSO is all about within the state of Utah. Proceeds from the Sandy Freedom Cup will be used to grow our program in Sandy and Draper and provide more soccer for more kids AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE. It will give AYSO the ability provide scholarships to those kids who otherwise can’t afford to play.
When will games be played?
Games *might* start Wednesday night for local teams AYSO United teams. Most teams will start Thursday (we try and start in the afternoon) and all teams will play once that day.

On Friday, there will be one game morning/early afternoon and one game late afternoon/night (2 games for each team).

Saturday will be for the semi and final games in the morning and afternoon for teams that make it that far.

Is AYSO Competitive Now?
With 50 plus years of running recreation soccer as the largest youth soccer organization in the USA, AYSO is the ultimate “rec soccer club”. And, until 2016, AYSO WAS a “rec only” club that held summer tournaments for “select” or “all-star” teams chosen during tryouts from the recreation player pool. In 2016, AYSO’s National Office rolled out the AYSO United Competition Club program that created a separate program designed from the ground up to be as competitive as the “other clubs” across the country. AYSO United Utah was one of the first inaugural SIX programs in the country… and yes, we are competitive.
Are there sponsorship opportunities?
We’d LOVE to have more sponsors! You can visit our sponsors page to get more information.
How are the tournament referees?
As a UYSA Sanctioned tournament, our referees come from the USSF Referee Association Pool. Are you a trained referee? We want to invite YOU to join us for the Sandy Freedom Cup! We have a fantastic referee compensation program and treat our refs like royalty. If you hold a referee certificate and would like to participate in the Sandy Freedom Cup, please register on our site here.
What kind of swag do I get?
Because of the 2020 Covid-19 situation and not knowing if we were even going to have a tournament this year, we weren’t able to supply t-shirts in the same fashion as years past. However, we will have a t-shirt vendor on site who can make shirts on the fly for a small cost. We hope to have the t-shirts for all players and coaches again in 2021. We will have a small goodie bag for coaches and are working on getting pins for everyone.
What's Needed to Check-in?
More information will be sent to coaches about check-in times as the tournament gets closer. However, as a general rule, teams will need to check-in at least an hour before their first game of the tournament.

Documents required for check-in will include:
1) For UYSA teams, bring 6 tournament rosters with photos printed from the Affinity system. The tournament will keep one and stamp the other 5 for you to use as game cards for game check-in.

2) For AYSO Core/EXTRA teams, a roster from eAYSO will need to be produced along with player birth certificates and AYSO Reg forms (with insurance waiver) for each player. Bring laminated game cards for checking in before games.
